Chris                Maurice                     Lee                       Rob

Rob alternates with Maurice and both know the West coast of Sumatra intimately. With Sanssouci's great comfort at sea and all weather power, you will surf breaks that are out of reach for most of the fleet
.

Lee insists on perfection at meal times. An experienced hotel chef, Lee now lives in Margaret River where he is much in demand at local restaurants.

Chris will film your surf sessions and then edit in the evenings on his computer. Finish the trip with a complete record on CD or tape.

Tim is one of the first Nias surfers to leave Legundi and find his place on a luxury charter boat. He is always ready to go the extra mile for you and he will happily help with your board repairs.

Sail + Power =
Speed = Comfort = Stability = Safety

Speed is important and the new 461hp main engine is matched to a new 3:1 gearbox. This gives Sanssouci a lot of grunt when sea conditions get ugly and that is often more important that theoretical top speeds quoted by some "fast" boats. Fuel efficiency means you dont waste time in ports re-filling tanks when you could be surfing.

If the breeze picks up Sanssouci can motor-sail at speeds of 12-14 knots depending on wind strength and direction. The biggest gain is the stability that setting sail contributes to the ride. The importance of this should not be underestimated. A comfortable motion at sea is critical to your enjoyment of every activity on board. If the seas get rough, setting sail can make the difference between suffering or enjoying the ride. Most of all it can ensure that you enjoy your meals at sea, sleep well and wake up refreshed and ready for more surf.

sailing

Sail also enhances safety at sea. It is the equivalent of having a second engine that uses no fuel and makes no noise. 200m2 of sail area in 15knots wind strength generates about 120-150 hp and can push the boat at between 7 and 8 knots.

Deck

Surfers who have visited the Mentawais understand that 75% of the trip is spent anchored near the breaks. No one can surf all day and a lot of time is spent on deck watching friends surf, shooting video, enjoying meals, or just reading a book. Shade is critical and Rob have gone to a lot of trouble to make Sanssouci's deck areas the perfect place to hang out between surf sessions.

fordeck

The rear canopy is engineered in GRP to stop heat transmission. The Fishing zone at the stern is huge and you can sit comfortably in the shade while waiting for a strike. Bring your boat rod, Sanssouci has plenty of rod holders. When you do hook up, you can move down to the huge swim platform so that you can stand and fight a big fish without restriction.

swim

All decks are protected by solid rails and covered in high quality non-skid for supreme security and safely. The enormous foredeck is ideal for board prep, stowage and repairs. Sanssouci boasts lots of freeboard so decks stay dry under most sea conditions.

Recovery

Mentawai surf is so perfect so often that it is almost inevitable that you will get too much sun. It is critical to find a seriously cool space where you can relax and recover. The best solution possible is an airconditioned saloon with all round views so you can watch your mates surf or just watch a video. The saloon and below decks area are sealed off from mosquitos for your protection.

enormous saloon

The saloon area makes the perfect recovery bay. Unbeatable for those rainy nights when the deck feels a bit too exposed. Multi plugs are always available for recharging your camera gear. There is a CD/VCD  player, 20" Sony TV and integrated stereo.

Meals

The crew are up at dawn preparing a big breakfast down below while you get out there with the dawn watch. Bottled mineral water is always on hand right where you need it. Hot water is always available for self serve tea and coffee. Lees galley is spacious and fully equipped for meals to remember.

Sleep

Sanssouci offers superb privacy with 5 cabins in a variety of configurations. The aft cabins have en-suits and they can either be arranged for  a couple (double ded) or 2 singles. Couples with kids can use the lower double and keep the upper bunk for 2 smaller children or one surf rated offspring.

2 plus one and ensuite

Forward are 2 private twin cabins with over under bunks and in the spacious bow cabin are 4 single bunks.

Duck

There is no stronger safer tender than an Alloy Duck. Australian built from 4mm marine grade alloy, this huge 3.5m (12ft) beast is incredibly stable and if necessary she can carry 6 surfers to the break or the beach. She is powered by a 40hp Yamaha 4 stroke outboard with electric tilt.

Sanssouci's attentive crew will run you out to the surf or rescue you if you loose your board. Get in close and video your mates surfing or head out with Tim and try your luck hooking up with some game fish.
